Suspect faces charges for the possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – The South African Police Service in the Western Cape, committed to rid the streets of illegal firearms and to create safe environments for all yielded success in Bishop Lavis on Wednesday.

Members of the Anti-Gang Unit responded to a complaint of a shooting in 8th Avenue, Bishop Lavis and conducted foot patrols in the area. The members noticed an unknown male walking in their direction and when he saw the police members he started to run and they gave chase. The suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm pistol without a serial number, 26 9mm and 5 .38 special rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

The suspect will in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 10 October 2025.
