Multidisciplinary tactical intervention results in arrests and recovery of firearms and a stolen vehicle
A multidisciplinary tactical operation conducted by various law enforcement units led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and a stolen vehicle in KwaMhlanga.
The operation, conducted on 30 December 2025, involved members from KwaMhlanga Crime Intelligence, Witbank Tactical Response Team (TRT), Middelburg Flying Squad, Nkangala District Anti-Hijacking Team, Provincial Task Team, Middelburg K9 Unit, and Nkangala District Highway Patrol.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 46 and 49.
According to reports, at approximately 15:00, information was received from KwaMhlanga Crime Intelligence regarding a wanted suspect linked to a pointing of a firearm case reported earlier this month in KwaMhlanga. The information was operationalised, and a search for the suspect commenced.
The suspect’s vehicle was located and intercepted in the Mandela Section, where he was found alone inside the vehicle. Upon searching him, police recovered a silver revolver with a filed-off serial number and three (3) live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with pointing of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The suspect was thereafter escorted to his residence at Stand No. 1263, Suncity AA, where a further search was conducted. The following items were recovered inside the house:
• Bank cards (one Nedbank, one FNB, and approximately 40 unregistered cards)
• Mixed live ammunition (45 rounds)
• One rifle magazine
• Pistol magazines
• 15 rounds of AK-47 ammunition
• 15 rounds of R5 ammunition
• 13 rounds of revolver ammunition
As a result, the suspect was further charged with:
1. Possession of a prohibited firearm
2. Unlawful possession of ammunition
3. Fraud
4. Contravention of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act
During the operation, police also noticed a vehicle parked next to the suspect’s neighbour’s residence. Upon verification, the vehicle tested positive as stolen, linked to a Mamelodi case registered in 2024.
Police approached the 49-year-old neighbour, who failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the vehicle. He was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Both suspects are expected to appear before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court today on the aforementioned charges.
