Armed robbery suspect arrested in Springs
On Friday, 20 February 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, arrested a male suspect for robbery in the Springs area.
While Officers were conducting crime prevention duties, they were approached by a female victim who had just been robbed at gunpoint. The suspects were reportedly driving a white Ford Figo and had taken the victim’s backpack.
Officers immediately responded and located the vehicle. During an attempt to flee, the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car at the corner of Orpiment and Main Reef Road.
The first suspect, who was the driver, managed to jump out of the vehicle and escape. The second suspect, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was apprehended on the scene. Upon searching the vehicle, Officers recovered the victim’s backpack and a firearm used during the robbery, which was found next to the passenger seat.
The twenty-three (23) year-old suspect sustained minor injuries during the collision and was transported to Far East Hospital for medical assessment. After being declared fit for detention, he was detained at the Springs Police Station and is facing charges for possession of an imitation firearm.
The EMPD commends its Officers for their swift response and continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
