The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mothibistad, supported by Home Affairs, SANDF, and Traffic officials, conducted a successful inter-provincial roadblock at the North West–Northern Cape border on Thursday, 02 April 2026, as part of the Safer Easter Holidays operations.

The multidisciplinary team executed a high-visibility operation, stopping and searching over 400 vehicles and 578 persons, including trucks and luggage, to enforce compliance and prevent crime.

Key successes include:

Two undocumented persons arrested;
Two livestock vehicles turned back for failing to produce health certificates;
23 traffic fines issued, with a total value of R35 700.00 and

Three J534 notices issued for vehicle defects and documentation non-compliance.

Public awareness was also prioritised, with 164 pamphlets distributed focusing on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and sexual offences.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended members for their dedication and urged continued vigilance, discipline, and professionalism during the Easter period. He emphasised strict adherence to operational standards, visibility on the ground, and zero tolerance towards criminality to ensure the safety of all communities.

The operation highlights strong collaboration between SAPS, SANDF, Home Affairs, and Traffic authorities in enhancing law enforcement visibility, ensuring compliance, and strengthening inter-provincial safety.
