Operation Shanela 2 focused on combating crime, enforcing compliance, and enhancing community safety.
The South African Police Service (SAPS), together with various law enforcement agencies and government departments, successfully conducted #OperationShanela2 between 09 and 12 April 2026. The operation focused on combating crime, enforcing compliance, and enhancing community safety.
During the operation, various activities were carried out, including searches, patrols, roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, and the tracing of wanted suspects. Compliance inspections were also conducted at businesses, liquor premises, farms, and mines.
Over 1,200 suspects were arrested for a range of offences, including serious and violent crimes, drug-related offences, illegal possession of firearms, and driving under the influence.
Wanted suspects were also successfully apprehended.
Police further confiscated a variety of items linked to criminal activities, including firearms, ammunition, drugs, counterfeit goods, illicit liquor, explosives, vehicles, and precious metals.
