Suspects to appear in court for the illegal possession of a firearm and dangerous weapon
WESTERN CAPE – Members of Operation Lockdown III were conducting crime prevention duties in Vyeboom Street, Bonteheuwel, on Friday, 2 January 2026, when they noticed an unknown male standing with a firearm in his hand. When he saw the police vehicle he started to run. The members gave chase but the suspect threw the firearm on the ground in an attempt to evade arrest. The firearm, a 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition was recovered. The search for the suspect led the members to an address in Vlamboom Street, where they arrested the suspect. The 28-year-old man faces charges for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Lockdown III were busy with patrols in Erica Square, Belhar, when they saw a male chasing a security guard with a knife. The members intervened and arrested the 37-year-old male for the possession of a dangerous weapon and intimidation.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Monday.
