Suspects arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
An intelligence driven operation by the OR Tambo District Task Team, at Sabe locality under the Bityi policing precinct on Thursday, 25 December 2025 at about 17H00, led to the arrest of a 37-year-old male suspect for possession of an unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol (intact serial number) and ammunition.
The male suspect, upon being searched in his shop, was found with the unlicensed firearm in his waist with a magazine loaded with fifteen rounds, and he had no licence to possess it. Further searching led to the recovery of eighty-eight (88) more 9mm pistol rounds, and the suspect was arrested on the spot.
Firearm circulation revealed no status of the confiscated firearm, whilst charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition were laid against the arrested suspect.
He is due to appear before the Bityi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 December 2025, facing the aforementioned charges.
